Transfer: Viktor Gyokeres gives up salary to move to Arsenal

Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres has made a big decision to help his dream move come true. He has agreed to give up €2 million from his salary just so he can sign with Premier League club Arsenal.

Gyokeres is one of the most in-demand players in the 2025 summer transfer window. Reports say he has already agreed to personal terms with Arsenal, meaning the deal now depends on the clubs reaching an agreement.

The Swedish striker is eager to leave the Portuguese league and move to a bigger stage in European football. He had been linked with several top clubs, but Arsenal won the race to sign him. According to reports, Gyokeres was so determined to leave Sporting that he even considered going on strike after the club initially refused to let him go.

Talks between Arsenal and Sporting are still ongoing. Both sides are trying to settle on the structure of the transfer fee, with Sporting asking for a higher amount than Arsenal first offered.

According to football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Gyokeres is doing his best to make the transfer happen. Quoting the Portuguese newspaper Record, Romano said Gyokeres gave up €2 million from his wages to help push the deal through. He added that Sporting are still holding out for a higher fee, but the player’s actions show how badly he wants the move.

It’s clear that Gyokeres sees Arsenal as the right next step in his career and is willing to make personal sacrifices to make it happen.
