President Tinubu Arrives In Rio De Janeiro, Brazil Ahead Of BRICS Summit

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has arrived in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to take part in the 17th BRICS Summit, a major global meeting that brings together top economies from different regions of the world.

Tinubu’s invitation came from Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. The invitation is based on Nigeria’s new role as a “partner country” within BRICS, which is one level below full membership. This is an upgrade from previous years when Nigeria only attended as a guest country.

Being a partner country means Nigeria now has a stronger voice in BRICS discussions, even though it is not yet a full member. As of now, the African countries that are fully part of BRICS include South Africa, Egypt, and Ethiopia.

President Tinubu’s presence at this year’s summit reflects Nigeria’s growing role on the international stage and shows a move toward deeper cooperation with emerging global powers.
