Troops arrest suspected gunrunner with rifle, ammunitions in Plateau

Troops from Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) have arrested a man suspected of selling illegal guns in Plateau State. He was caught during a stop-and-search operation in Bokkos Local Government Area, and an AK-47 rifle was found with him.

According to security expert Zagazola Makama, the arrest happened on July 3 at about 5:45 p.m. The soldiers stopped the suspect in Mangar, a community in Daffo District, after receiving a reliable tip.

The suspect has been identified as 37-year-old Zubairu Ahmed. When he was searched, troops found an AK-47 rifle, a magazine with three rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a motorcycle, two Tecno phones, some clothes, and ₦400.

Zagazola shared on his X account that the suspect is now in custody and being questioned. The military is also trying to locate other people who may be part of the illegal gun supply network.

Security forces continue to work hard to stop the spread of illegal arms and protect communities in Plateau and beyond.
