Coalition: Asking Peter Obi to resign in 48 hours disrespectful – Bashir Ahmad knocks Abure-led LP

Bashir Ahmad, a former media aide to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, has spoken out against the Labour Party’s 48-hour ultimatum asking Peter Obi to resign. He described the move as highly disrespectful.

According to Ahmad, Peter Obi brought national attention and energy to the Labour Party. He said most of the party’s current popularity is thanks to Obi’s involvement.

The current leadership of the Labour Party, led by Julius Abure, had recently told Obi to either leave the party within 48 hours or face expulsion.

Abure and his team made it clear they are against joining the new opposition coalition. They also accused members of the coalition of being power seekers who care more about themselves than the people.

Reacting to the situation on X (formerly Twitter), Ahmad said, “I’m not a fan of Peter Obi or his ideologies, but it is incredibly disrespectful for the Labour Party to ask him to resign within hours. It is completely ungrateful.”

He went on to say that about 75% of the Labour Party’s current support base exists because of Obi. His entrance, according to Ahmad, gave the party the national relevance it now enjoys.

“You don’t treat the person who built your house like a visitor,” Ahmad added.

Peter Obi is currently one of the key members of the new opposition coalition, which has backed the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 elections.
