A resident of Awka, Anambra State, has been praised by the state police for his bravery in filming a kidnapping while it was happening. The man risked his safety to record the event, and the video is now helping police investigate the case.
The video, which has been widely shared online, shows three armed men using a stainless-colored Toyota Highlander SUV without a license plate. They were seen shooting randomly before forcing an unidentified person into their vehicle in the early hours of Friday, June 27.
Police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga shared a statement on Saturday, June 28, confirming the video is being used as part of the investigation. He said the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, praised the resident for his courage, adding that the recording is helping the police in their mission to rescue the kidnapped victim.
The police chief said the video is playing an important role in the rescue efforts and could help save the life of the kidnapped person. He also said the act shows how community members can play a big role in fighting crime.
According to the police, the video might help identify the kidnappers, gather evidence, and ensure that justice is served.
In another case, the police revealed that they found the body of Mr. Chido Ozor, who was kidnapped on June 19 from his pig farm in Nimo, located in Njikoka Local Government Area. SP Ikenga explained that while police had been tracking the suspects, they sadly found Ozor’s body near his farm on June 23.
The investigation continues, and the police are asking the public to keep supporting security operations by providing useful information that could help stop crimes and lead to arrests.
