Ghanaian footballer Thomas Partey may be on his way out of Arsenal this summer. Talks about extending his contract have completely stalled, and no progress has been made.
ESPN shared that Partey’s current contract ends in June, and it’s unlikely that both sides will reach a new agreement before then.
He joined Arsenal in October 2020 after a £45 million move from Atletico Madrid, which happened on the final day of the transfer window.
Since then, Partey has played 167 games for Arsenal and has scored nine goals during his time at the club.
Last season, he was injured for most of the campaign. However, when he returned, he played a key role in helping Arsenal reach the Champions League semi-finals.
So far, the only major trophy he has won with the team is the Community Shield.
Meanwhile, Arsenal is reportedly close to signing Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad in a £51 million deal. Many believe Zubimendi is being brought in to take Partey’s place.
Partey has spoken about his future and says his decision will depend on what’s best for him and his family. He believes happiness and comfort are important when choosing where to play next.
He also mentioned that as players grow older, they have to think about their family’s happiness and financial needs. When young, it’s easy to play anywhere, but with age, life becomes more about stability.
Even with all the uncertainty, Partey said he still supports Arsenal. He added that decisions about his future will be handled by his agent and the club, while he focuses on enjoying the game.
