President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has told Nigeria’s top security officers, including the Inspector General of Police, to find and arrest the people behind the killings in Benue State.
He gave this order on Wednesday when he visited Makurdi, the capital of Benue State, after fresh violent attacks occurred in the area.
During a meeting with key leaders in the state, the President asked the police why no suspects had been arrested yet. He made it clear that arrests should already be happening by now.
Turning to the heads of the military and intelligence services, Tinubu acknowledged their efforts but reminded them that the job isn’t finished. He mentioned that he had been following their work closely, especially the Defence Chief, General Christopher Musa. He told them they must stay alert and continue the mission until the attackers are caught.
He also spoke directly to the heads of Nigeria’s intelligence services—the Director General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and the Director General of the State Security Service (SSS). He told them to upgrade their information systems and gather solid intelligence so that such attacks don’t happen again.
