Chelsea started their Club World Cup campaign with a smooth 2-0 victory against Los Angeles FC in their first Group D match.
They are the first Premier League club to play in this year’s tournament and showed their strength early in the game.
Chelsea kept control throughout the first half and finally took the lead in the 34th minute. Pedro Neto chased a long pass, took two brilliant touches to control it, and then scored with a low shot into the corner of Hugo Lloris’ goal.
After halftime, LAFC came out with more energy and looked for a way back into the game. However, they struggled to finish their attacks and didn’t take their chances.
Chelsea sealed the win in the 79th minute when Enzo Fernández calmly found the back of the net with a clean finish.
Next, Chelsea will face Brazilian side Flamengo on Friday. Los Angeles FC will meet Esperance of Tunisia in their next game.
