President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has finally spoken about the recent tragedy in Benue State. The attack happened in Yelewata, a community in Guma Local Government Area. It was reported that over 200 people lost their lives in the incident, which was blamed on suspected armed herdsmen.
Tinubu made his comments on Monday during the opening of the Greater Abuja Water Supply Project in the Federal Capital Territory. He sent his sympathy to the people of Benue and asked everyone to stay calm, even in such a painful moment. He also stressed the importance of coming together as a nation.
“I share in the pain of the people of Benue,” the President said. “I have spoken with their governor, community leaders, and other officials. I ask them to accept our heartfelt condolences and work hard to keep peace in their communities.”
The President compared Nigeria to one big family living in the same house but in different rooms. He said that although the country is made up of many ethnic and cultural groups, Nigerians must still learn to live in peace. He believes that embracing unity in diversity will help the country grow.
Tinubu also addressed the rising worry about insecurity and violent conflicts in different parts of the country. He encouraged Nigerians not to let their anger control them but to stay strong and peaceful during tough times.
“We all need to control our emotions, especially our anger,” Tinubu said. “My heart goes out to everyone who has lost someone. I will change my schedule and travel to Benue on Wednesday to be with the people and offer my support.”
