A serious incident happened in Taraba State when a church building collapsed during a worship service, leaving many people injured.
The affected church is the United Methodist Church Nigeria (UMCN), which is located behind the police station in Jantaro, a community in Mutum-Biyu town, the main area of Gassol Local Government.
According to reports, the worshippers were inside the church on Sunday, June 15, 2025, when the building suddenly came down. This was caused by heavy rain and strong winds that hit the area during the service.
Thankfully, no deaths were reported. However, many worshippers suffered injuries. Some were taken to the Mutumbiyu Referral Hospital for treatment, while those with broken bones were rushed to a local bone setter for care.
Alhaji Baffa Wanzami, a well-known bone healer in the town, confirmed that three people were brought to him, including a young girl who had broken bones in her arms and legs. He helped treat their injuries.
“It is very sad that some worshippers were injured and a few had broken bones when the church fell while they were praying. Some of them were brought to me, and I helped set their bones,” Wanzami shared.
A resident of the area, Musa Adamu, also noted that the storm not only damaged the church but also destroyed some houses in the town.
