Insecurity: IGP Kayode Egbetokun visits Benue

On Monday, June 16, the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, traveled to Benue State to see the security problems there for himself. This visit came after many violent attacks happened recently, causing many people to lose their lives and forcing hundreds to leave their homes.

The visit happened soon after a serious attack last Friday in the Yelwata community. Suspected herdsmen were blamed for the violence that killed many people in that area.

This attack is just one of many recent violent events in Benue State. Benue is an important farming area in North Central Nigeria. The state often faces deadly fights between farmers and nomadic herders, causing great problems for the people living there.

The police chief’s visit also came after a new order from President Bola Tinubu. On Sunday, the president told security leaders to take quick and strong action to bring peace back to Benue State.

The people of Benue hope that with this new focus on security, the violence will stop, and life can become peaceful again.

The latest news of wanton killings in Benue State is very depressing. We must not allow this bloodletting to continue unabated. Enough is now enough.

I have directed the security agencies to act decisively and arrest perpetrators of these evil acts on all sides of the conflict and prosecute them,” the President said.
