President Bola Tinubu said on Wednesday, June 11, that he would gladly accept Nyesom Wike into the All Progressives Congress (APC) whenever he decides to join. Wike is currently the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Tinubu made this comment while launching the Arterial Road N16 and other completed projects in the Katampe area of Abuja. He appreciated Wike’s work in government and joked about the songs Wike used during his earlier political campaigns.
“We have somebody—Nyesom Wike—he is not a member of my party (APC), not yet. But the day he changes his mind and registers with the progressives, we will welcome him. Because we will enjoy singing ‘as e dey pain dem, e dey sweet us”the President said
Although Wike is a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), he caused a stir by openly supporting Tinubu during the 2023 elections. He is now serving in the APC-led government as a minister. However, Wike continues to say that he remains in the PDP and is only working with the current government for the good of the country.
