Suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan from Kogi Central has been asked to appear in court on Tuesday after receiving an official court order.
Her lawyer, West Idahosa, confirmed on Sunday, June 1, that Natasha will follow the court’s instructions. However, he mentioned that it’s still unclear whether the government plans to officially arraign her or not.
The Federal Government, through the Director of Public Prosecutions, Mohammed Abubakar, has filed criminal charges against her. She is accused of making damaging remarks during a live TV interview and also during a private phone call.
According to the court document filed on May 16, 2025, the government said Natasha made serious accusations during her appearance on Politics Today aired by Channels TV on April 3. She reportedly claimed that Senate President Godswill Akpabio and former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello talked about plans to kill her.
The charges also mention another incident on March 27, 2025. During a phone call with a woman named Dr. Sandra Duru, Natasha allegedly made further defamatory claims. She reportedly linked Akpabio to a disturbing organ harvesting scheme involving the late Iniubong Umoren, saying it was meant to help his sick wife.
Those mentioned in her statements—Akpabio, Bello, and four others—are expected to serve as key witnesses in the case.
In a phone interview, her lawyer, Idahosa, said their legal team is ready to defend her and is fully prepared for the court hearing.
When asked if Natasha will be formally arraigned, Idahosa said he doesn’t know yet. He explained that the charges have already been changed once, and there may be more changes depending on what the government decides.
