Japa: School fees even more expensive abroad – Youth Minister

Nigeria’s Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, has said that studying in other countries is often more expensive than studying in Nigeria.

He made this point during a discussion on Channels Television, where he talked about how some policies from President Tinubu’s government are helping young people.

Answering questions from young Nigerians, the Minister told them to always research carefully before making decisions and not just follow what is popular on social media.

He explained that the new student loan program, provided through the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), shows that President Tinubu is focused on helping students and planning for the future.

The Minister also said, “We young people sometimes follow trends without thinking enough. It’s better to do your own research.”

He believes this is the first time a Nigerian president has really planned for students’ futures in this way.

Olawande added that it is a good thing the President does not want any student to leave school because they cannot afford the fees.

He praised the government’s efforts to help students find jobs after school so they can pay back their loans.

Finally, he pointed out that in many countries where young Nigerians want to move (known as “japa”), school fees are usually higher than in Nigeria.
