Adewole Adebayo, a former presidential candidate under the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has made it clear that he will not step aside for Atiku Abubakar in the upcoming 2027 presidential election.
He said this during a live interview on Channels TV, where he responded to talks that Atiku may be considering using the SDP as his platform to run for president again.
Adebayo stated that while Atiku or any other politician is free to join the party, they must follow the proper rules and process if they want to contest under the SDP.
He also said firmly that he would not step down for Atiku and that, to his knowledge, Atiku has not asked anyone to do so.
According to him, no single person, including himself or Atiku, can “use” the SDP for personal goals. He stressed that the party belongs to the Nigerian people, and it is not a tool for political ambition.
He went further to say that people who believe in the SDP’s ideas and values are welcome to join. However, they must be sincere and not come with the mindset of using the party to gain power.
Meanwhile, DAILY POST reports that some major opposition figures are planning to work together in a coalition to remove President Bola Tinubu in the next election.
Key leaders in this movement include Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi of the Labour Party, and Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State.
