Senate President Godswill Akpabio has made it clear that lawmakers were not elected to argue with the Executive arm of government. According to him, their job is to support ideas and policies that will help the country grow and move forward.
“When elected into the National Assembly, whether in the Senate or the House of Representatives, your constituents will not give you boxing gloves. It’s not a boxing tournament. You are there to work in a bipartisan manner for the interest of Nigeria.”
He spoke about this in a documentary that is set to be released soon, which highlights the achievements of President Bola Tinubu’s government after two years in power.
Akpabio also mentioned that the relationship between the Senate and the Executive has been very peaceful. He said both sides have been working well together because they share the same vision for Nigeria’s progress and development.
“If you spend all your energy fighting the Executive, who will work for Nigeria?” he asked.
