Delivery driver who bolted with N34m worth of medical equipments arrested

A delivery driver who escaped with medical equipment worth N34 million has been caught by police officers in Lagos.

The driver had been hired by a doctor from Osun State to transport the equipment from Ikotun and Ikeja areas in Lagos to Idumota. From there, it was supposed to be sent to a client in Zamfara State.

Dr. Ajefolakemi John, who gave the job to the driver on April 15, 2025, was shocked when the driver disappeared with all the equipment. He tried to reach him several times but got no response.

To make matters worse, the driver turned off all his phone lines, making it impossible to contact him. The doctor then reported the matter to the police. The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in Zone 2 ordered the anti-crime unit to begin a quiet investigation to find the man.

After some digging, the police found out that the driver was hiding in Adoka Community in Benue State. He was arrested in a nearby place called Ugbokpo Community.

The police were able to recover almost all the stolen medical items. These included a ventilator, a blood test machine, patient monitors, ECG equipment, and an ultrasound machine.

However, one ultrasound machine, the Mindray DP 10, was missing. The driver confessed he had sold it for N1 million to someone named Chukwudi Eyinaya in Mushin, Lagos.

The suspect also told the police that the rest of the equipment was safe and kept with his sister in Ihiala, Anambra State.

The police said that once the investigation is complete, the suspect will be taken to court to face charges.
