The Nigerian government has explained why Simon Ekpa hasn’t been brought back from Finland to face charges in Nigeria.
On May 8, the government said that Simon Ekpa, a Biafran political activist, won’t return to Nigeria until his ongoing case in Finland is completed.
The Attorney-General of the Federation, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, said Ekpa committed crimes in both Nigeria and Finland. Because of this, the Finnish authorities have their own case to handle before any extradition can happen.
While speaking in Abuja, Fagbemi shared that the Finnish government has already started legal action against Ekpa. Only after that case is completed can he be returned to Nigeria.
He made it clear that Ekpa broke laws in both countries. So Finland will deal with their part first, and after that, they will release him to Nigeria.
Ekpa was arrested in Finland, and their authorities want to go through the full legal process before handing him over.
In summary, the Nigerian government says they will wait for Finland to finish its case against Simon Ekpa before he can be extradited.
