US fighter jet falls into sea

In a second similar incident within a week, a US Navy fighter jet has fallen into the Red Sea after it slipped off the flight deck of the USS Harry S. Truman.

According to Reuters, two US officials shared that the F-18 jet did not stop properly after landing on the aircraft carrier. The jet ended up tipping off the edge and plunging into the sea.

Before the jet hit the water, both crew members ejected safely and were picked up by a rescue helicopter shortly afterward.

Medical teams checked on the pilots and found they had only minor injuries. Thankfully, no one else on the flight deck was hurt during the accident.

The US Navy has not yet released an official statement about what caused the incident.

CNN was the first to report this new development. Interestingly, this comes just a week after another similar accident involving a jet falling off the same aircraft carrier.

The USS Harry S. Truman is currently supporting US military operations in the Red Sea, particularly airstrikes targeting Houthi fighters in Yemen.

Fighter jets like the F-18 are expensive assets, often costing over $60 million. Events like this are rare and taken seriously by the Navy.
