The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), led by billionaire Elon Musk, has announced that it has canceled 148 wasteful contracts worth a total of $420 million.
DOGE shared this update in a statement on its X account late Monday.
Among the canceled contracts is a $143,000 contract with the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) for monitoring the potency of confiscated marijuana samples.
The department noted that these cancellations have led to a saving of $198 million for the United States.
In the past two days, 148 contracts were terminated, resulting in $420 million in contract value being cut, with savings of $198 million. One example is the $143,000 HHS contract for marijuana potency monitoring, which was also canceled, DOGE said on X.
This comes shortly after DOGE revealed that it had canceled an additional 401 contracts worth $2.1 billion.
The department was set up by the Trump administration to reduce wasteful spending in US government agencies.
President Donald Trump recently expressed approval of DOGE’s work, suggesting that the department may become a permanent feature in the US government.
