US President Donald Trump has made it clear that he has no plans to seek a third term in the White House.
Speaking during an interview on NBC’s Meet the Press, Trump stated that he isn’t considering running for president again after completing his current term.
During the discussion, the 76-year-old president declined to take responsibility for the struggling economy. He also expressed doubts about whether the Constitution would allow him to pursue his deportation policies.
The interview, which is part of Trump’s media outreach, comes as he celebrates his first 100 days in office during his second term as president.
Trump mentioned that although he had previously hinted at running in 2028, the 22nd Amendment prohibits anyone from serving more than two terms as president.
“I’m not thinking about that,” Trump said, adding that many people have encouraged him to try. “But as far as I know, it’s not something you’re allowed to do. Whether it’s constitutional or not, I don’t know,” he explained.
The 22nd Amendment of the US Constitution explicitly states: “No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice.”
Trump concluded by saying that he aims to complete four productive years in office and hand over leadership to another capable Republican who can continue his policies.
