Russia declares state of emergency at port after Ukrainian drone attack

On Saturday, the mayor of Novorossiisk, a Russian port city, announced a state of emergency after local officials reported that a Ukrainian drone attack had caused damage to a grain terminal and several residential buildings, leaving at least five people injured.

In a video shared on his official Telegram account, Andrei Kravchenko, the mayor of Novorossiisk, was seen inspecting the damage to three apartment buildings. The video displayed debris in front of the buildings, a car that had been crushed, shattered windows, and balconies that had been torn off the building’s facade.

Kravchenko mentioned that one of the injured, a woman, was in serious condition in the hospital, and two children had also been hurt.

The governor of Krasnodar, the region where Novorossiisk is located, Veniamin Kondratyev, stated that the debris from the drones had also affected three storage units at the grain terminal, resulting in a fire. Thankfully, no one was injured in this incident.

Delo Group, the company that owns the affected grain terminal, confirmed in a statement that the fire had been put out and cleanup efforts were underway. The company also reassured that the terminal was operating normally and following the necessary protocols set by the authorities.

As of the time this report was filed, Ukraine had not responded to the incident. However, Ukraine’s air force reported that Russia had attacked Ukraine the night before with 183 drones and two ballistic missiles.
