Police burst criminal den in Anambra, arrest suspect over gruesome murder of woman

The police in Anambra State have uncovered a criminal hideout in Ukpor, Nnewi South Local Government Area. They arrested a 35-year-old man named Ewulu Chikwo for his role in the brutal murder of a policewoman, Inspector Stella Maris.

According to a statement from the police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the arrest was made on April 25, 2025, by officers from the Rapid Response Squad and Anti-Kidnapping unit. The team acted on solid information and found the suspect hiding in a criminal camp.

During questioning, Ewulu admitted he was part of the group that attacked the Ukpor Divisional Police Headquarters in 2022, where Inspector Stella Maris was killed. He also confessed to being a member of the banned group, IPOB, and said they were planning to force people to stay at home the following Monday.

The police have now increased patrols in the area to catch other gang members. They also promised quick action if anyone gives useful information.
