The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (Retired), has said that the state is still in a fragile condition, even though things seem calm. He spoke during a meeting on Friday, April 25, with a special committee from the House of Representatives checking on the situation in Rivers State.
Ibas said the peace in the state must be handled carefully because of the political changes happening. He also apologized for missing earlier meetings with the committee, saying he had to focus on keeping the state stable under the current emergency situation.
He explained that his absence wasn’t meant to disrespect the committee, but was due to the many urgent challenges he had to deal with in his role. Ibas asked for more time to prepare a full report about what’s going on in Rivers State and promised to give all the needed information to help the committee do its job.
The committee’s chairman, Professor Julius Ihonvbere, spoke about the importance of the National Assembly’s role. He explained that while the President can declare a state of emergency, the National Assembly must approve it to make it official. He also said the Assembly needs to approve important decisions in the state, like budgets.
The committee was glad Ibas finally joined the meeting and said their work is important to help bring stability to Rivers State. They will share a new meeting date soon, along with more updates.
