The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has warned the public about the growing habit of sharing old videos that make the police look bad. According to the Police, these videos are often used to mislead people and create fear, which can threaten national security.
In a statement shared by the Police spokesperson, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the NPF said that some of these videos are many years old, and the issues shown in them have already been fixed. However, people are now bringing them back to make it look like the problems are still happening.
One of the videos showed a police officer in Yobe State complaining about poor working conditions. The Police explained that this video is outdated and the problems mentioned have already been solved through proper actions.
Another video featured an officer saying that the fight against bandits was influenced by politics and that police were being sent to dangerous places without enough support. The NPF said this video was also false, and that the claims were fully investigated. The officers involved were punished for spreading fake information.
The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, asked Nigerians to be careful before sharing such videos. He said these clips can cause fear, make people doubt the police, and harm national unity. He also advised people who are spreading these false stories to stop immediately.
IGP Egbetokun added that the Police Force is working hard to improve officer welfare and to better serve the people. He reassured citizens that the police are committed to keeping the country safe and fighting all types of crime.
