Pentecostal church in South Africa hosts Easter Sunday mass wedding for 1500 couples, with some men marrying multiple wives at same time (video)

A Pentecostal church in South Africa marked Easter Sunday by hosting a massive wedding ceremony for around 1,500 couples. The event included many polygamous marriages, with some men marrying their sixth or seventh wives during the same ceremony.

The event was held by the International Pentecost Holiness Church as part of its Easter celebrations. The church, which began in the 1960s in South Africa, blends Pentecostal beliefs with African cultural traditions, including polygamy.

According to church spokesperson Vusi Ndala, polygamy is not just accepted in the church—it is respected and celebrated. He said that the large number of marriages this year was due to many men marrying more than one woman at the same time. Some even brought their current wives along to witness or join in the new marriage.

The wedding took place at the church’s massive dome-shaped headquarters in Heidelberg, near Johannesburg. The venue can hold up to 60,000 people.

The brides and grooms waited in large white tents next to the church building. They were given flowers, food, and water before they entered the church in long lines. Brides wore white wedding dresses, while most grooms wore white suits with red ties.

Mass weddings are not new for this church, but this year’s celebration was the biggest ever. Last year, about 400 couples were married at the same event.

In South Africa, polygamy is legal if it follows customary marriage laws.
