Former Nigerian senator, Shehu Sani, has shared his thoughts on President Bola Tinubu’s leadership and public image. According to Sani, Tinubu knows that his current policies will not make him popular with the people, but he is still going ahead because he believes the reforms are important for Nigeria’s future.
Speaking during an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today, Sani explained that leaders often face a choice—either do what makes people happy right now or make tough decisions that help the country in the long run, even if it means losing support.
He compared the situation to his time in parliament, when he spoke up about insecurity in northern Nigeria and faced pushback just because the president at the time was from the same region.
Sani believes Tinubu has chosen the harder path—trying to fix long-term issues, even if people are not happy at the moment. He said the president will remain unpopular until these reforms start showing real, positive results in people’s lives.
