Three officers from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) were badly injured after unknown gunmen attacked them during a night raid in the Jahi area of Abuja on Thursday.
According to NDLEA spokesman, Femi Babafemi, the officers were acting on a tip-off and went to search an uncompleted building near the NNPC area in Jahi. During the raid, they found 74 bottles of codeine, 10 litres of codeine syrup, 48 grams of tramadol (225mg), 4.9 kilograms of skunk (a strong type of cannabis), and five Android phones.
However, as the officers were leaving the scene, gunmen suddenly opened fire on them. Three officers were shot—one in the rib, and the other two in the back and leg.
The wounded officers were first taken to the Police Clinic in Garki Area 1 for emergency treatment. Later, they were moved to the National Hospital in Abuja for better medical care.
NDLEA Chairman, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), praised the staff at the Police Clinic for their quick response and also appreciated the Chief Medical Director of the National Hospital for taking special care of the injured officers.
