Nigerian Fuji musician Saheed Osupa has decided to cancel the legal case he filed against singer Portable (real name Okikiola Badmus).
Portable was arrested by the Kwara State police on Monday, April 14, for allegedly making false and harmful statements about Saheed Osupa. He was accused of threatening Osupa’s life, using abusive words, spreading lies, and behaving in a way that could cause public trouble.
After his arrest, Portable was taken to a correctional center because he couldn’t meet the bail requirements. He needed to pay N1 million and bring two sureties, including someone who must be a PMAN (Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria) chairman. His next court date is April 30, 2025.
According to a statement from Saheed Osupa’s team, the case was not about personal revenge. They said it was meant to set a good example and teach younger artists to behave responsibly. They also mentioned that Portable had repeatedly disrespected Osupa and violated his music rights.
However, after several important Nigerians pleaded with him, Osupa chose to forgive Portable and ordered his team to withdraw the case. Osupa hopes this will be a chance for Portable to change for the better.
But the case will only be dropped if Portable agrees to three conditions:
- He must take back his statements.
- He must admit he lied.
- He must sign a written promise not to repeat such actions.
It’s worth noting that in March 2025, Osupa had also reported one of Portable’s songs for copyright violations, and the song was later removed from music platforms like Spotify. This made Portable angry, and he insulted Osupa and questioned his importance in the music world.
Portable later apologized and said he acted out of greed.
