Singer Charles Onyeabor calls out fake ‘friends’ in viral social media rant

Nigerian-born and Europe-based singer, Charles Onyeabor, recently went viral after posting a bold message online. The son of the late Afro-funk legend used his platform to call out fake friends and share how he plans to handle relationships from now on.

Charles said he’s tired of one-sided friendships and is now setting clear boundaries. He described himself as old-fashioned and loyal but feels that many people treat friendships like business deals these days.

In his post, he said that if he calls someone twice and doesn’t get a reply within 24 hours, he will delete their number. “No be only you sabi dey busy,” he wrote, saying everyone is busy, so ignoring messages is just rude.

He also said he will stop supporting friends who don’t support him in return, whether it’s his music, business, or personal life. And if someone only contacts him when they need money, they will get blocked—unless he’s feeling generous.

Charles added that if you meet someone who never returns your messages and they say “I’ve been busy,” they’re really saying “You’re not important.” He warned people to avoid such fake behavior.

He also called out people who act like close friends in public just to impress others. According to Charles, these are not real friends.

He ended his message by reminding everyone that knowing rich or famous people doesn’t make you one of them. Instead of pretending, people should work on becoming successful themselves.
