In Oke-Ere, a town in Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State, Nigeria, a group of angry women held a strong protest on Wednesday, April 9. They were protesting the continuous attacks, kidnappings, and killings in their community, which they say have been going on for months.
The protest was emotional and intense. Many of the women, mostly elderly, appeared half-naked as they marched through the streets. They sang sad songs and cried, asking the government and security agencies to help protect them.
The women blamed armed kidnappers and herdsmen for the violence and said they were tired of living in fear. Through their protest, they begged the authorities to act quickly and stop the violence in their area.
A Facebook user, Kogi Pulse, who shared the video online, wrote;
“The women of Oke-Ere in Yagba West local government area of Kogi state making prayers for the security of the land against kidnappers and Fulani herdsmen.
The women are tired of insecurity and reckless killings of their husbands, children, and loved ones in the hood. They can’t go to the market or farm to feed again #freeYagbawestfromInsecurity”
