The Supreme Court of Nigeria has removed a five-year ban on the Attorney General of Imo State, C. O. C. Akaolisa. This ban was earlier placed on him by the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee (LPDC).
Back in July 2021, the LPDC accused Akaolisa of misconduct. They claimed he misused his position to help free someone who was on trial for murder. Because of this, they stopped him from practicing law for five years.
However, after a legal battle, the Supreme Court decided that the LPDC’s judgment was not right. A panel of five judges at the apex court looked into the matter and agreed that Akaolisa’s appeal had merit.
Justice Mohammed Baba Idris, who led the Supreme Court panel, said the LPDC’s ruling was flawed. He declared that their decision from July 9, 2021, was cancelled. Akaolisa can now return to legal practice.
This judgment ends the long legal fight and clears the Attorney General’s name.
