Troops foil kidnap attempt, rescue victims after intense gun battle in Taraba

Troops from the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, working with the Nigeria Police Force, successfully stopped a kidnapping attempt along the Takum-Jalingo road in Taraba State. The rescue operation took place after security forces received a distress call from road users.

According to Captain Oni Olubodunde, the Acting Brigade spokesperson, the kidnappers had ambushed an 18-seater Toyota bus in Muji Town. Responding quickly, the troops engaged the criminals in a fierce gun battle, using superior firepower that forced them to flee into the forest, leaving their captives behind.

Two people were rescued from the attack—Mr. Yakubu Usman from Angwan Abuja in Takum and Mr. Godwin Peter from Angwan Dadin Kowa. Unfortunately, Mr. Peter sustained injuries during the attack and was immediately taken to a medical facility for treatment.

The remaining passengers continued their journey safely after the security forces secured the area. The Nigerian Army’s 6 Brigade reaffirmed its commitment to keeping Taraba State safe and encouraged the public to provide timely and accurate information to help fight crime.

With swift action from the military and police, another tragic kidnapping attempt was stopped, ensuring safety for travelers on the Takum-Jalingo road.
