Super Falcons forward Monday Gift has officially joined Major League Soccer (MLS) club Washington Spirit. The Nigerian striker signed a three-year contract with the option to extend for an extra year.
Monday made the move from Spanish club UD Tenerife, where she played over 65 matches and contributed 26 goals. The 23-year-old is thrilled about the new opportunity.
“I am excited to join the Washington Spirit family. I have always wanted to play for this club,” Monday said on the club’s website. “I can’t wait to start living my dream with the Spirit!”
Washington Spirit head coach Jonathan Giraldez is happy to have her on the team.
“Gift is a special forward with great attacking skills. She will bring something new to our attack,” he said. “We are excited to welcome her soon.”
Monday was part of the Super Falcons squad at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. Now, she is ready for a new challenge in the MLS with Washington Spirit.
