Authorities in South Africa have started an investigation after a fake Facebook account was created, falsely advertising a mother and daughter as s3x workers.
The victims reported the case to the police under SAPS Case 447/03/2025. On March 24, 2024, they also visited the Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) Headquarters to report the incident.
The family said they received about 200 phone calls from men who believed the false advertisement and wanted to pay for their services.
The victims, a 38-year-old mother and her 19-year-old daughter from the Ethekweni District, told RUSA officers that someone close to their family likely created the fake Facebook account. The person shared their personal details, including their phone numbers and private information, on March 21, 2025.
Since then, the mother and daughter have been overwhelmed with calls. Police are now investigating the case to find out who is responsible.
