The Abia State Commissioner of Police, Danladi Isa, has officially disbanded the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit and the Command’s Special Squad. In their place, the police command has introduced a newly trained unit called the Scorpion Squad to enhance security operations across the state.
The police spokesperson, DSP Maureen Chinaka, announced the development in Umuahia, stating that the Scorpion Squad is a more professional and tactical unit aimed at improving law enforcement. SP Ibe Daniel will lead the new squad, with DSP Eze Augustine serving as his deputy.
According to Chinaka, the decision was made to ensure the police force follows the law while effectively tackling crime. The Commissioner emphasized that all officers must maintain professionalism and follow proper procedures in their operations.
While addressing the Scorpion Squad, Commissioner Isa stressed the importance of intelligence-led policing, proper conduct, and following the official dress code for easy identification. He warned that any officer found guilty of misconduct would face disciplinary action.
The new squad has been tasked with reducing violent crimes and keeping criminal activities in Abia State under control. The police command remains committed to improving security and ensuring the safety of residents.
