“Rules are rules” Lawyer, Stan Alieke, explains why corps member who called out government is wrong based on “employment policy”

A lawyer, Stan Alieke, has explained why an NYSC member who spoke out against President Tinubu and Nigeria’s economy may have violated employment rules.

In a post on social media, Alieke said that rules are rules and that the corps member may have broken the employment policy by criticizing the government.

He pointed out that NYSC members are technically employees of the government because they receive a stipend from the government. According to him, this means they are restricted from making certain statements against their employer—the government.

Alieke advised the corps member to understand this rule and not be influenced by social media support. He emphasized that NYSC members should be aware of the limits set by their employment terms.

This situation has sparked discussions online, with some agreeing with Alieke’s view while others argue that corps members should have the right to express their opinions.

‘’If NYSC kicks you out, your options of getting some jobs in Nigeria are already limited as some organizations won’t employ you without a Nysc certificate. For further clarification, she should read her NYSC handbook.”
