English presenter Piers Morgan has strongly criticized Millwall goalkeeper Liam Roberts for a reckless tackle on Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta. The incident happened in the 8th minute of their FA Cup match, leaving Mateta with a serious injury.

As Mateta ran towards a long pass from a teammate, Roberts rushed out of his goal and crashed into him. The dangerous tackle led to a straight red card for Roberts, while Mateta had to be stretchered off the field.

Morgan reacted to the tackle on social media, calling it “the worst he has ever seen in football” and comparing it to an assault that could lead to jail time if it happened outside the sport.

Crystal Palace later confirmed that Mateta is in the hospital and will undergo ear surgery. Despite losing their key striker, Palace won the match 3-1 and advanced to the quarterfinals of the FA Cup.

Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish also expressed his anger, calling the challenge reckless and dangerous. He even suggested that Mateta could have lost his life due to the impact.
