Former federal lawmaker, Prof. Olusola Adeyeye, has shared how President Bola Ahmed Tinubu once trusted ex-Governor Rauf Aregbesola with his life. Adeyeye made the revelation while speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics.
He expressed disappointment over the broken friendship between Tinubu and Aregbesola. According to him, he has made several attempts to reconcile the two political leaders without success.
Adeyeye recalled a meeting where Tinubu once said, “If you see me sleeping and Rauf coming with a knife, don’t wake me up. He will never harm me.” This statement showed how deep the trust between the two friends was.
The former senator hinted that the disagreement between them might have started when Tinubu was believed to have supported his brother against Aregbesola during a political issue.
Despite his efforts to settle their differences, Adeyeye admitted that all attempts have failed. However, he remains hopeful that the two leaders can still make peace.
“Power can be treacherous in Nigeria,” he added, while calling for unity between the two long-time allies.
