Reality TV star Porsha Williams has broken her silence after her estranged husband, Simon Guobadia, was taken into custody by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
According to reports, Guobadia, 60, is being held at Stewart Detention Center in Georgia. His official status is listed as “in ICE custody” by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
Guobadia, a Nigerian businessman, moved to the U.S. in 1982 but allegedly overstayed his visa. In 1985, he was declared deportable, and in 1992, he was deported after multiple arrests for bank and credit card fraud. However, he returned a month later.
His attempt to gain U.S. citizenship in 2016 was denied due to his previous immigration status. He has since filed multiple appeals, but none have been successful.
Williams, 43, who is currently divorcing Guobadia, shared her feelings on Instagram.
“It’s disheartening to see my estranged husband make choices that have led to this outcome. At this moment, my priority is moving forward with my family.”
Williams filed for divorce in February 2024, after 15 months of marriage. The couple, who married in November 2022, have been in a legal battle since their split.
In September, Williams won a case regarding their prenuptial agreement. In November, she was granted temporary sole possession of their marital home, with full rights to film and produce content there.
Guobadia’s detention comes amid new immigration policies allowing for the deportation of undocumented immigrants. In February 2024, he had celebrated 42 years in America on Instagram, but his future in the U.S. remains uncertain.
As Williams focuses on her family and career, Guobadia continues to fight against deportation.
