Police interrogate officers filmed manhandling civilian in Abia

The Abia State Police Command has begun an investigation after a viral video showed some police officers assaulting a civilian.

The video, which surfaced on Facebook, was reportedly recorded along Lagos Street in Umuahia on February 20, 2025.

In response, the police command confirmed that the officers involved have been identified and are now being questioned at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Umuahia.

DSP Maureen Chinaka, the spokesperson for the command, released a statement on February 21, assuring the public that disciplinary action would be taken against the officers if found guilty. She stated that updates would be provided as the investigation progresses.

The Commissioner of Police in Abia State, CP Danladi Isa, condemned the officers’ actions, calling them a violation of professional standards and an abuse of public trust.

He assured the public that the police force under his leadership remains committed to professionalism, upholding the law, and treating citizens with respect.

The incident has sparked discussions on social media, with many calling for accountability and justice for the civilian involved.
