National assembly is not for content creation — Senate spokesperson Natasha Akpoti over clash with Akpabio

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central, had a heated exchange with Senate President Godswill Akpabio over the reassignment of her seat.

The disagreement happened on Thursday when she refused to accept her new seat, citing her rights under Senate rules.

The seat reshuffle followed the defection of some opposition members to the ruling party. Akpoti-Uduaghan, however, felt the change was an attempt to silence her.

During the confrontation, she firmly stated, “I don’t care if I am silenced. I am not afraid of you. You have denied me my privilege.”

As the situation escalated, Akpabio instructed security officials to remove her from the chamber, but other lawmakers intervened to calm things down.

Senate spokesperson Yemi Adaramodu later reacted to the incident during an interview on Channels Television.

He dismissed Akpoti-Uduaghan’s claims, saying the National Assembly is meant for serious work, not drama or content creation.

Adaramodu also pointed out that Akpoti-Uduaghan had not been sidelined, as she was appointed chairperson of three Senate committees, despite being a first-time senator.

He further stated that the Senate would not revisit the dispute since another senator from Kogi, Isah Jubril, had already apologized on her behalf. According to him, “The Senate has accepted the apology, so we are not going back to it.”
