A US Appeals Court has once again blocked former President Donald Trump’s order to end birthright citizenship. The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled against the order on Wednesday, stopping it from taking effect.
Several lower courts had already rejected the order, leading Trump’s administration to seek emergency relief. However, the Appeals Court denied the request, stating that the administration did not show enough legal grounds to succeed in the appeal.
With this decision, the ruling from a Seattle district court remains in place, temporarily preventing the order from becoming law. The court plans to review the case in June to make a final decision on its legality.
Legal experts believe this could lead to a Supreme Court battle, as no court has supported Trump’s executive order on birthright citizenship so far.
