Former Manchester United star Dimitar Berbatov has raised concerns about how manager Ruben Amorim is using players like Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund.
He believes both players are struggling in the system and wasting too much energy.
Speaking after Man United’s 1-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League, Berbatov pointed out that the team’s tactics are not helping the players perform at their best. With this defeat, Man United dropped to 15th place in the league.
Zirkzee started the match against Tottenham in an advanced midfield role behind Hojlund. However, Berbatov noted that he often dropped too deep, which made him ineffective. He said this positioning prevented Zirkzee from using his strengths.
Berbatov also commented on how Hojlund is struggling in Amorim’s 3-4-3 system. He explained that Hojlund spends too much energy running back to cover gaps in midfield. Because of this, he is too tired to make an impact when attacking.
According to Berbatov, the way Amorim sets up the team forces players to cover too much space, which leaves them exhausted when it’s time to attack. He believes this system is not helping Zirkzee and Hojlund show their best qualities.
As Man United continues to struggle in the league, many fans and experts will be watching to see if Amorim adjusts his tactics to help his players perform better.
