Russian missile attack on Kyiv kills one, sparks fires – Ukraine

A Russian missile attack on Kyiv early Wednesday left one person dead and four others injured, including a 9-year-old child.

The attack sparked multiple fires and caused damage to critical infrastructure in Ukraine’s capital.

The attack happened around 2:30 AM GMT, shaking the city with loud explosions. Ukrainian officials said the country’s air defense systems worked to intercept the missiles.

Ukraine’s air force confirmed that six out of seven ballistic missiles were shot down. Additionally, out of 123 drones launched, 71 were destroyed, while electronic countermeasures likely stopped 40 more.

Following the attack, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy called for global unity against Russian aggression.

He emphasized that Russia’s attacks would not stop without firm action from Ukraine’s allies.

“Putin is not preparing for peace – he continues to kill Ukrainians and destroy cities,” Zelenskiy said.

There is renewed discussion about potential peace negotiations. Former U.S. President Donald Trump recently claimed he had spoken with both Kyiv and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Meanwhile, Zelenskiy mentioned that Ukraine would soon hold talks with U.S. officials.

The missile attack also affected other parts of Ukraine. In the northern region of Chernihiv, two people were injured, and important infrastructure was damaged.

Despite continued attacks, Ukraine remains determined to defend itself and seek support from international partners. The situation highlights the ongoing devastation of the war and the urgent need for a lasting solution.
