Starting February 1, 2025, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) will begin enforcing the law that all vehicle owners must have third-party insurance. This measure is part of a nationwide effort to improve road safety and ensure that all drivers are insured to protect themselves and others on the road.

The announcement was made by the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and a statement was issued by Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on January 31, 2025. The NPF emphasized the importance of complying with the law, reminding vehicle owners that failure to obtain valid third-party insurance could result in fines and other penalties.

From February 1, 2025, all vehicles must have valid third-party insurance. Those without it are urged to get insured quickly to avoid facing any penalties or complications.

To ensure proper enforcement, police officers will be conducting checks, and state commissioners have been instructed to oversee the process. The NPF will impose fines or penalties on those found in violation of the law.

The Nigeria Police Force is committed to improving road safety and protecting lives by ensuring that everyone on the road follows the law. They encourage the public to cooperate and make the roads safer for all.
