Please, do better next time Comedian Dave Chappelle tells Trump ahead of second term in office

Comedian Dave Chappelle returned to host Saturday Night Live (SNL) for the fourth time, just before Donald Trump’s second presidential inauguration. In a monologue that balanced humor with reflection, Chappelle addressed recent events, urged Trump to show empathy, and shared lighter moments about his personal experiences.

Speaking directly to Donald Trump, Chappelle reminded him of the weight of the presidency. He said, “The presidency is no place for petty people,” urging Trump to consider the needs of all Americans, whether they supported him or not. Chappelle also encouraged Trump to lead with humanity and empathy for displaced people, citing examples from both California and Palestine.

Chappelle wished Trump luck, saying, “Please do better next time. All of us need you to do better.”

Chappelle reflected on the devastating fires in Southern California, which destroyed over 40,000 acres and claimed at least 27 lives. While expressing his sorrow for friends who lost their homes, Chappelle criticized those on the internet blaming celebrities for the disaster. He also praised Canada and Mexico for sending firefighters to assist but joked that Trump might want them to leave as soon as the fires were under control.

Chappelle admitted he was initially hesitant to host SNL but saw it as an opportunity to move on from old jokes about Trump and controversies surrounding his past remarks. He brought levity to the show with quips about missing Sean “Diddy” Combs’ infamous parties, joking he wasn’t invited because he’s “ugly.”

He also touched on Trump’s divisive comments about migrants in Ohio, his home state, humorously highlighting the absurdity of the claims.

In closing, Chappelle shared his admiration for former President Jimmy Carter. While refraining from judging Carter’s presidency, he praised him as a “great man” for visiting Palestinian territories despite the risks involved.

Chappelle’s SNL monologue showcased his ability to combine humor with meaningful messages. By calling for empathy, reflection, and improvement, he reminded viewers of the power of compassion—even in comedy.
