The Oyo State High Court in Ibadan has granted bail to three individuals connected to a tragic stampede at Islamic High School, Bashorun, Ibadan.
The three individuals are Mr. Abdullahi Fasasi, the school’s principal; Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat, the proprietor of Agidigbo FM; and Olori Naomi Silekunola, a former wife of the Ooni of Ile-Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi.
The stampede, which occurred on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, claimed the lives of 35 children, leaving families and the community in deep grief. Following the incident, the trio was taken into custody and ordered to remain at the Agodi Correctional Facility by an Oyo State Magistrate Court in Iyaganku.
On Monday, January 8, 2025, Justice K.B. Olawoyin of the Oyo State High Court ruled in favor of granting bail after considering the arguments presented by their legal representatives. The case continues to attract widespread attention, with calls for justice for the victims of the tragedy.
The court’s decision marks a significant development in the ongoing trial, and the community remains hopeful for a fair resolution.
