The All Progressives Congress (APC) has set its sights on taking over the leadership of Abia State in the 2027 elections. The party is promising to bring significant benefits of democracy to the people of Abia if it secures victory.
At a rally held at Abiriba Stadium in Ohafia Local Government Area, the APC Abia State Chairman, Kingsley Ononogbu, welcomed Kelvin Jombo Onumah, a former member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), along with his supporters, into the party. Ononogbu stated that the APC is now stronger, more united, and ready to win after addressing issues that affected its performance in the 2023 elections.
Ononogbu expressed confidence that the achievements of key party members, such as Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, and the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, would boost the party’s chances. “If we take over Abia State in 2027, you will witness more actions, real and measurable actions,” he said.
He also commended Kelvin Jombo for joining the APC, describing it as a smart move.
Kelvin Jombo stated that his decision to join the APC was driven by his desire to bring development to the Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency and Abia North. He promised to contribute to the party’s growth and work towards better opportunities for his people.
Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, also present at the event, urged Nigerians to remain patient with President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms. He acknowledged the current challenges but assured the people that the reforms would eventually yield positive results. He also highlighted the APC’s achievements and called for balanced reporting from the media.
Meanwhile, the Abia State PDP Chairman, Abraham Amah, in a statement, expressed optimism about the PDP’s future. He assured party members that the PDP would bounce back stronger despite its current challenges.
As 2027 approaches, the political landscape in Abia State is heating up, with the APC and PDP preparing for a fierce contest for leadership.
