Auto-crash claims nine lives, injures 21 in Katsina

A deadly road accident occurred in Dankama, Kaita Local Government Area of Katsina State, resulting in nine deaths and 21 injuries. The incident was confirmed by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) through a statement from Sector Commander Aliyu Ma’aji, shared by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Shamsudeen Babajo.

The crash involved a trailer transporting cows and passengers. According to Ma’aji, the driver was trying to avoid hitting a woman who had fallen from an overloaded Golf car carrying beans. In the attempt to avoid her, the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing the trailer to detach from its main body and fall onto the pavement.

The injured passengers were taken to the Primary Healthcare Center in Kaita for treatment. Some victims, due to the severity of their injuries, were transferred to the Katsina General Hospital and the Federal Teaching Hospital for further care.

The FRSC has issued a warning, urging drivers to avoid carrying animals with passengers, as this is highly dangerous. Additionally, passengers were encouraged to report overloading and dangerous driving practices to help reduce the risk of accidents on the roads.

Safety on the roads is a shared responsibility. By following traffic rules and speaking out against unsafe practices, we can help prevent more accidents like this.
